Missions Time to be honest with you (not that we haven't been up to this point). Denominations can be a pain! Sometimes we call CrossRoads a "Contemporary Baptist Church." We use the label "Baptist" to give you some idea of our beliefs and priorities right up front, but our members come from many different backgrounds, and few have strong denominational ties. Many of us have experienced the controversies that seem to plague denominations today, and we've seen how it can filter down all the way to the local church, harming our ministry and fellowship. Yet, at the same time, we love those sincere Christian missionaries who have sacrificed so much to share a wonderful, liberating truth with a world in pain.
So, what do we do? The CrossRoads solution is this:
We will support the missionaries of the Southern Baptist Convention, but do not intend to become involved in denominational controversies.
We support the Baptist General Convention of Missouri, but encourage our members to pray for and, as the Lord guides their consciences, to support other missionary organizations of like faith and practice.
We also support Jennifer Mayfield, a member of our church who moved out west to minister to the Santee Indians, and is doing wonderful things among them.
We will support Blood Water Mission, an initiative to provide clean drinking water for African villages, so that they may have a cup of cold water in the name of Jesus. We are making this an on-going compassion ministry, and have already funded the building of several wells. We will not let denominational issues harm our ministry. We will not ignore the work of the Kingdom of God around the world.
